1952/55 AUSTRALIAN NATIONAL    RAILWAYS GHAN CARRIAGE

Description:
1955 Original Ghan Railway Kitchen/Dining Carriage - NDC95 - DC95

We have had this carriage for 18 years and it has been used as a party/function room. The carriage is divided into two sections, so one end can be easily closed off when not in use.

The ‘Kitchen’ end has been renovated into a lovely open room – includes the following:
Laminated flooring and white ceilings
One side has the original wooden walls with golden window trims, and the other wall has been recently painted blue (end 2016) with black borders and varnished wooden window frames.
Small kitchen room with sink, ample cupboard storage space, window for natural lighting, exhaust fan, broom/cleaning cupboard, hand towel dispenser, hand sanitiser dispenser and stainless steel bench top.
Corridor leads to the toilet – 1 toilet including handwashing basin and handtowel dispenser.
Storage cupboard and neat curtain dividing the two sections.
Ample space for tables, chairs, etc. – this end was used as a more ‘informal greeting area’ before the guests moved into the dining room…

The ‘Dining Room’ end has been kept as much as possible like how it would have originally been used when running on the railways – includes the following:
Railway carpet ¾ of the length of this room, with floorboard laminate on the remaining quarter.
8 eating booths, 4 comfortable large seats per booth, with windows at each booth.
Extra laminated area at the end to accommodate more tables/seating.
Each table can fold up to the wall to create an open carpeted room if desired.
All windows have blinds (installed new) and red curtains
Wall mount for television screen

The entire carriage has been fitted out with lighting, electricity and plumbing and has 4 exit/entry doors – 1 at each end of the carriage and 1 on either side of the ‘Kitchen end.’ It also has 2 split system air-conditioners installed, one in each section.

The carriage will be sold with it’s white Colorbond corrugated iron roofing as well. This was added on to offer extra protection for the carriage and therefore, has minimised any sun/rain damage. The main entrance is a double door (all keys for all doors included) with a Colorbond and wooden verandah entrance that can either be easily accessible by a ramp or stairs (this part is detachable).

The carriage has been used the entire 18 years for public use, so consequently has been well cared for and frequently maintained and cleaned to a high standard. We are only selling it due to the closure of our tourist attraction, but this carriage could be so easily adapted into a granny-flat, museum piece or a unique and practical function room.

Removal is at your own cost, and we are very happy to be flexible with you in this process.

Size (in metres): 29.26 length x 3.3 height x 3.2 width
